Mission

Communication Across the Curriculum is a faculty-driven program committed to improving the communication competencies of all UNC Charlotte students. CxC pursues this mission by promoting communication in student learning, supporting departments, programs, and individual faculty as they integrate communication into and across their curricula, and enhancing student learning directly through peer mentors (Student Communication Consultants).

GUIDING PRINCIPLES

Students will thrive in their college, professional, and personal lives when they can accomplish communicative goals. This means creating messages appropriate to the audience, purpose, and context and selecting the appropriate modalities to achieve those goals.

  • Communication instruction is most successful when continuous and scaffolded throughout undergraduate education.
  • Communication promotes and facilitates learning.
  • Communication is a situated practice and context-specific.
  • Communication is essential to civic life and discourse.

NON-DISCRIMINATION POLICY

UNC Charlotte seeks to promote a fair, humane and respectful environment for its faculty, staff, students, contractors and visitors. The University prohibits discrimination and harassment on the basis of race, color, religion, age, national origin, physical or mental disability, political affiliation, veteran status, genetic information, sex, sexual orientation, gender expression, or gender identity in its programs and activities, and in its employment and educational decisions.

SAFE ZONE ALLIES

We are committed to respecting, accepting, supporting, and listening. We are here. A Safe Zone Ally at UNC Charlotte is an informed campus partner who has committed time and energy through organized training to learn more about individuals that may identify as Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning or may be unsure of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The Safe Zone Symbol is a visible symbol of support and an affirmation of commitment by that individual to fight homophobia and heterosexism at UNC Charlotte.
